Art for $50 or less, hot cider, friends
Couldn't possibly afford art in Miami? Need some holiday gifts for friends? Shandaken Projects has got you covered!
You are invited to the 2015 edition of Julia Sherman's Art Tag Sale, open to the public from noon to 5 pm on December 12. Over 45 artists (including 9 Shandaken alumni!) will offer treasures from their archive in this one-day-only, East Village sale.
"As artists and art-workers, we all experience some anxiety around our old work and the questions surrounding a personal archive, on both an emotional and a practical level." says Sherman. "We'd rather sell the artwork ourselves, disperse it into the world to have one last stab at some kind of 'value' beyond our own personal histories."
To prevent important work from moldering in storage, Sherman proposes this tag sale as a means by which artists can cathartically release unseen projects, sell studies or other works not usually seen on the market, or distribute artwork independently from the gallery system. With the caveat that no object can be priced above $50, Sherman and her co-hosts, Shandaken alumni Brie Ruais and Sophy Naess, have invited a wide range of artists to contribute whatever artwork they would like to this unique event. All proceeds are returned to the artists. This sale is perfectly timed to purchase gifts for one's friends (and for artists to make some quick cash)for the holidays!
Participating artists include Karen Azoulay, Guy Ben-Ari, Noah Breuer, Becky Brown, Christine Case, Esteban Cabeza de Baca, TM Davy, Jared Deery, Sonya Derman, Jonathan Durham, Ryan Foerster, Elise Gardella, Dylan Gauthier, Jesse Greenberg, Groupshow, MacGregor Harp, Terry Hempfling, Heidi Howard, Kristen Jensen, Jenni Knight, Ellie Krakow, Jennie Jieun Lee, Kristina Lee, Molly Lowe, So Yoon Lym, Abby Manock, Reuben Lorch-Miller, Rudy Loewe, R.
