Since 2008, Sam Moyer has developed a distinctive language of abstraction that considers questions of value, labor, and beauty. Her practice has evolved from its more conceptual and process-based origins to address formal and theoretical issues regarding the construct of painting. In all her production, issues of scale and space remain critical, and Moyer is particularly interested in the way architecture functions in tandem with her objects to create dynamic visual experiences.

All these concerns coalesce vividly in Moyer’s most recent paintings, large compositions of variegated and multi-hued sections of repurposed marble, slate and stone combined with fabrics in a spectrum of colors. Combining found textures and objects in innovative ways, Moyer manipulates them into beautifully abstract formal works that provoke a new, expanded, artistic vocabulary. Builder addresses parallel concerns at a minute scale. Each of these editions is unique, and as much as we might like to, Shandaken is not able to accommodate previews or exchanges.
